Microarrays, Inc.
- Robot Interface Update
Microarrays needed an expansion of a current VB6 program, for which
Microsoft will no longer offer support. The solution was to convert it to the
latest version of .NET Visual Studio 2008. By rewriting the software it allowed
us to eliminate extraneous code that was no longer applicable, and improve the
business process flow. The use of VS2008 would also create a more usable
solution by allowing for future expansion.
Soltus implemented a custom solution which allows the existing server to
communicate in .NET using Visual Studio 2008. To our knowledge, this solution
has not been documented by others on the web. Because Soltus was aware of
Microarrays needs and time urgency, we were able to program a solution which
meets their specific needs.
The solution created by Soltus gives the user a better interface.
It is more reliable and will be easier to maintain in the future.
The production set-up time has been reduced, enabling staging of multiple
jobs simultaneously. The new user interface will allow them
to communicate to new and old pieces of hardware using one set of code, VS2008.
By taking the existing VB6 program and converting it to .NET Visual
Studio 2008, the resulting architecture provides a path for future expansion as
their business grows to incorporate new features such as recipe
management, traceability and production metrics.
